Overview: This game is a fan fiction of “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, a Japanese science fiction animated television series. In this game, you and the NPC are both young teenage space pilots. What Works: This game is extremely simple, which works to its advantage and disadvantage. It  certainly isn’t a bad game, but I think it will end up at the bottom of the pile, simply because of this overarching simplicity. Its simplicity works for it technically – it’s quite bug-free. It works for it in  the game’s hotness in that there is a certain air of innocence that is inherent to characters’ young age that is captured by the fact that the game doesn’t get bogged down with a complicated story or hunt for puzzle solutions.

What doesn’t: The main fault of this game is that we are given nothing whatsoever about the characters. They live in a pre-made TV show world, and maybe if you’re a fan of the show (which I’m not – I’d never even heard of it) you’d recognize something in them that resonates with you.  Without knowledge of their background, however, they feel like nothing other than a couple of teenagers having sex for no reason. This is the great risk of fan fiction. If you can’t capture and  recreate the feel of the fictional universe in such a way that non-fans will find interesting, you won’t have much of an audience for your game. And if you can’t expand upon the fictional
universe in such a way that resonates with fans, they’ll tune you out.
